HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST

Fourth of July! Independence Day!

To North Americans, the Fourth of July is the day the United States of America celebrates its freedom and independence. As the day approaches, it is a time to think about these concepts. Therefore, the Republicans in Panama invite you to participate in an essay contest by writing a 500-word essay on the topic:

What the Fourth of July means to me.

There will be three cash prizes: 1st prize $100, 2nd prize $50 and 3rd prize $25. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation. Winners will be recognized at a formal presentation on (date to be agreed to with the schools).

Essays must be in English, on topic and will be judged on content, style, spelling and grammar.

Entries must be typed in Word and submitted in hard copy. Winners will be asked to email their entry at a later date for inclusion on the Republicans in Panama website.

Each entry must have a cover sheet with student name, age, grade, school and teacher’s name. Do not put your name on the essay sheets. All entries will be judged anonomiously.

All high school students, grades 9 through 12, are invited to participate. Entries must be received by Monday, May 2, 2005. Entries must be emailed to your school contact.
